5K Run/Walk - Plus 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk
Date: Sunday, October 5, 2008
Location: La Mirada Regional Park - La Mirada, CA
It's hard to believe this is our 9th year hosting the Lupus Race for Life. Last year, we had the largest turn out ever-this is the biggest lupus race in the United States! Thanks to you we were also able to raise 20% more than the year before.
This year we are dedicating the race in memory of Lt. Darrell Poncy. He recently passed away unexpectedly while doing what one the things he loved-running. Everyone who knew Darrell has been affected by this loss.
The course you will run this year is the same route he designed 8 years ago. He, along with his fellow Orange County Sheriff Department colleagues, laid out the course, made sure it went smoothly and picked it up at the end year after year.
In his honor, we are renaming the first law enforcement officer across the finish line, the Darrell Poncy Spirit Award. This will be given to the first male and female law enforcement officers who cross the 5K finish line.
